I am not a pastry chef or much of a cake decorator, but what I lack in looks, I more than make up for in flavor. Dulce de Leche is the base for many Latin American desserts, and while you may be able to find it already made, nothing could be easier. Simply boil an unopened can of sweetened condensed milk for 2 - 4 hours (making sure the water never runs dry, or the can will explode).
